Test Room Booking
A feature redesign to manage test room bookings for students with disabilities
Design Challenge
One of the key challenges of legacy platforms is keeping the interface aligned with evolving user behaviors and rapid technological advancements.
Accommodate is a platform designed to support students with disabilities throughout their academic journey. The system provides dedicated access for both students and university administrators and has been in use for over a decade, helping institutions automate, simplify, and track the approval and delivery of academic accommodations.
As part of this project, I was responsible for redesigning one of the platform’s most critical workflows: exam scheduling for students with disabilities

Research Steps
Requirements Gathering
With clients and manager interview
Based on focus groups, it was possible to understand what was causing frustration.
Benchmarking
With alternative search tools
A phase of research to unsderstand how other search tools worked was truly helpful before prototyping.
Previous Platform
The test scheduling platform offered a wide range of filters that were highly useful for students. However, the way these filters were presented often led users to interpret the search page as a request form. As a result, students frequently filled in unnecessary filters, unintentionally narrowing the results to the point where the system could not find any available exam slots.

Interface

User Testing
Conclusions:
Improved usability, enabling smoother user interactions
Increased ease of use across the platform
